Parkway Tree Planting Effort
At its annual Pathway Clean-up on Saturday, May 17, 2008, in partnership with the City of Casper’s Keep Casper Beautiful Great American Cleanup Campaign and the City of Casper Urban Forestry division, volunteers and Parkway Board Members planted 225 trees. With the plentiful moisture we've had this spring these trees are doing wonderfully. To further support these new trees, on Friday, June 13, 2008 a volunteer group of LDS youth from around the state of Wyoming placed cages around all the trees to protect them.
The Parkway would like to thank William Scott and the City of Casper Urban Forestry unit, all of the wonderful Spring Clean-up volunteers as well as the LDS youth group for their assitance in this effort to improve the river corridor.
2nd Annual Walk for the Parkway, For Wellness, For Community
The Platte River Parkway Trust Board would like to thank all of our great Sponsors and supporters for joining us for he 2nd Annual -Walk for the Parkway, For Wellness, For Community, on Saturday, June 14, 2008. Over 70 walkers joined us and many were entered into a drawing for Fabulous Prizes and everyone received free snacks and beverages.
The Parkway Board will host this event again in 2009 with the goal of promoting the Parkway trail system, which is a free, safe and attractive place for physical activity. Studies have shown that communities that encourage physical activity by making use of linear corridors can see a significant effect on public health and wellness. Walk for the Parkway participants are asked to gather donations from friends, family and business associates for the Walk and to join other Parkway supporters for a day of exercise and fun along the Platte River Parkway.
